Museum Response: "Visionary Metropolis: Tony Garnier's Une Cité Industrielle"

Tony Garnier's Une Cite Industrielle is an elaborate proposal for a healthier environment catalyzed by the industrial revolution's rapid degrading of nature. The Industrial Revolution didn't leave room to consider how it was affecting the environment so Garnier and a handful of other artists took it upon themselves to propose a green city that could also evolve technologically and bring a sense of community through these extremely detailed works. By taking everyone's needs into consideration with public spaces that bring people together such as baths and pools, recreational sports arenas, and hospitals Garnier  promoted a healthy, active, and social lifestyle through his plans for an energy efficient industrial city. His meticulously planned city for civic engagement was laid out with a magnifying glass and all in order to show the details and thought put into every aspect of his work, the industrial zones, health zones, etc. but something that is noticeably missing are the police stations. Garniers intentions were that social organization and proper urban design would eliminate the problems police would need to address. Garnier society ideally would have been a healthier alternative to the Industrial Revolution
