Response: "Routes of Influence"

I recall being told we were able to use the PAMM
visit as a substitute response for later visits or something along those lines
and the weather did not permit me to be able to visit the Lowe so I plan to
visit sometime this week but in the meantime. The Routes of Influence exhibit
at the Perez Art Museum was limited to three pieces but for good reason, they
had a ridiculous amount of detail and ornamentation. Hew Locke's Hemmed in Two is
a humongous cardboard sculpture with the words "export", "fragile",
"barcodes", "this way up" and there is even a little person
cut out and placed in there. Cardboard is the standard shipping material for
all types of goods worldwide and this piece seems to be self referential in
terms of being a commodity becoming a shipment as it leaves the studio.
Firelei's Baez's pieces also complimented the cardboard giant well providing
plenty of pattern in the headdress and fabric. The headdress was the main focus
obscuring the woman wearing it in order to show the elaborate nature of the
headdress. The fabric piece's simplicity, color, and pattern was reminiscent of
fine china however unlike porcelain the fabric isn't harder than acrylic
