This was a challenging read mainly because of its allusions, references to material previously unbeknown to me and hyper detailed descriptions of garden types. Gardens are arranged, man-made in order to give the illusion of freedom, to choose where to go as you please, in a confined, controlled space.Gardens are art imposed unto wilderness, man taking the saddle and making nature its pony. Gardens are an attempt to organize nature and make it more beautiful than it already is. Gardens are a lot of things according to this article but hardly are gardens considered art. And maybe they aren't art but rather a gallery full of cohesive pieces and clear divides between subjects that each part elevates the experience as a whole. I never considered before reading this article that gardeners are artists and put just as much thought into gardens and their arrangement as artists put into their pieces.
